Photo assignment

Doing photo assignment for the swedish television, this is the second trip. This time I went to a favourite place in Lapland, Rensjön Kiruna, a sami village. This location is very good for Aurora of course but also for good weather. In doesn´t matter what the weather forecast shows because of the micro climate in the area. I also stopped by a good friend Ulf Jonsson in Luleå http://www.juo.se/ and did some shooting. The final work will be timelapses in a upcoming project. 270 GB of footage, hopefully some of it is good enough for broadcasting. Here are some footage around the area, not from any of the

There are so many things that must work to get good footage, of course clear skies, but all the equipment with cables and batteries, dew/frost, sharpness, and this time 2,3m of snow and -20 degree C! I needed to use the snowmobile tracks to get hard ground.

Capture Aurora Borealis at Rensjön

TWAN friend Yuichi Takasaka went to Abisko to photograph the Northern lights so me and my father took a long drive to Kiruna to meet him and also capture the Aurora. Such a beautiful place this Sami village, frost all around, - 16 degree C  and a very low sun. We had three nights to do this and we got three clear nights with Aurora every night, full pott! Around 300GB with photos. We also captured some Leonids and a proton arc.

Strange shape Aurora Borealis

I miss the Northern lights, the strong ones!
I checked some old RAW files and found some new photos from the time in Kiruna.
Some strange shape Auroras, talk about disturbens in the atmosphere!
All over the sky, the northern lights become southern lights and all over sky lights.
The tracks in one of the photos I think its Lynx tracks, just outside the fence of some reindeers.

Ber med min kamera - pray with my camera

Lite dåligt med klara nätter just nu här i Tänndalen. Men jag lever fortfarande på upplevelserna i Kiruna med Babak Tafreshi. Han mejlade mig bara drygt en vecka innan vi for iväg. Först tänkte jag att det inte gick att genomföra men min kära fru pushade för att jag skulle bege mig iväg. Efter lite fixande och trixande så blev det verklighet. Tack vare goda vänner så fick vi möjlighet att bo både i Luleå hos Uffe och senare i famliljen Holmgrens hus i samebyn vid Rensjön utanför Kiruna. Att få tre klara nätter med storm av norrsken kunde vi bara drömma om. Bilden visar när jag fotar ett fantastiskt norrsken utan vetskap om att Babak fotar mig. Som Babak har döpt bilden till så ser det ut som om jag ber på knä med min kamera, detta knästående gör jag jämnt, vet inte varför.. Kanske dags att be för lite klar himmel här i Tänndalen innan man beger sig hemåt, snart blir det för ljust för astrofoto...

Norrskens storm - Aurora storm

Vad kan man säga, bilden säger nog allt. Tack vare goda vänner som har ett hus vid Rensjön utanför Kiruna så får jag och Babak möjlighet att se och fotografera norrsken. Väder prognosen visar klart väder inatt igen och jag har varit och rekat med skotern och hittat ett perfekt ställe med utsikt över fjällvärlden. Det som kan hindra oss är den kraftiga vinden just nu...

Detta är ett drömställe för en Astrofotograf!

Det var så kraftigt norrsken igår att jag och Babak tittade på varandra och sade "Disco in heaven" och skrattade.
