Comet Lemmon getting brighter

I was about to eat dinner and the forecast said mist but I looked out and saw the big dipper clearly. Jumped into the car and went for a quick drive so I had clear view. I could easily see the comet with binoculars but the clouds rolled in. So I took my 300mm lens and made a single expo of the comet before the clouds took over the show.

Photo assignment

Doing photo assignment for the swedish television, this is the second trip. This time I went to a favourite place in Lapland, Rensjön Kiruna, a sami village. This location is very good for Aurora of course but also for good weather. In doesn´t matter what the weather forecast shows because of the micro climate in the area. I also stopped by a good friend Ulf Jonsson in Luleå http://www.juo.se/ and did some shooting. The final work will be timelapses in a upcoming project. 270 GB of footage, hopefully some of it is good enough for broadcasting. Here are some footage around the area, not from any of the
timelapses..
There are so many things that must work to get good footage, of course clear skies, but all the equipment with cables and batteries, dew/frost, sharpness, and this time 2,3m of snow and -20 degree C! I needed to use the snowmobile tracks to get hard ground.

Geminids 2014

It started with clouds but the forecast showed clear skies after midnight. So me and my father took the car and went towards the clear skies and ended upp in Skepptuna. As soon as the clouds dissapeared we saw meteors. Not so many strong ones by at least 10 really bright ones and maybe 50-60 fainter ones.
I did this composite photo showing 11 meteors exactly where they ended up in my photos, so this is not a single photo.
Faint Aurora in the beginning of the night too and later on moonlight, a nice session!

M57 The Ring Nebula

Despite moonlight I tried to photograph the Ring Nebula M57, a planetary nebula in Lyra. This dying star is located about 2500ly away and spans 2ly in diameter. About the Ring Nebula Photo taken with my Celestron NexStar11 GPS @2800mm and Canon 600D (modded).

Galaxy NGC 891

Maybe someone out there is looking at our galaxy Milkyway like this..
NGC 891 lies in the constellation of Andromeda and the distance are around 30 million ly away.
Photo taken with a Celestron NexStar11 GPS @ 2800mm and Canon 600D in Carpe Noctem Observatory, guiding through Orion 100ED and Lacerta Stand Alone Guider.
Expos at iso 800 1600 3200 and 6min each, totlally around 90min.

Stargazing weekend

What a great weekend by the cabin, lovely nightsky with faint Aurora Borealis and meteors, great Milkyway and great company, my family went along and joined me.
My children looked at M31, M45 and the double cluster with binoculars and it was a great view.

Perseus Galaxy Cluster

In a galaxy far far away...amazing, every dim dot in the photo are a galaxy 267 million lightyears away! The Perseus Galaxy Cluster.
How did Earth look like 267 million years ago when the light started its travel to Carpe Noctem Observatory..
90min exposure with a Celestron NexStar11 GPS 2800mm f/10 and Canon 600D modded.

Aurora friday

Very nice Aurora Borealis display in Uppsala Sweden last friday. Two CME hit the atmosphere and created some nice Northern lights as far south as Uppsala.
We were standing on Kings Hills from the time of the vikings.

Family stargazing and comet meet nebula

Clear nights at the cabin by the river. A great night with campfire and the starry sky above. The same night comet Jacques met the great nebula IC1396 in the sky, of course far away from each other in space. Also faint Aurora Borealis in the north but a very nice Milkyway in the sky.

Comet Jacques

The little green dot in the sky is comet Jacques. Beautiful in the telescope and easily visible with my Vixen binoculars. At the moment the comet lies beside the Cassiopeia constellation and the photo is taken with a 85mm lens and Canon 6D in my backyard in Vallentuna.

Comet Jacques from Carpe Noctem Observatory

So first session in the observatory after the summer nights. I enjoyed comet Jacques which was really nice through my C11 at 2800mm. The comet is moving really fast towards Cassiopeia, it is impossible to see without optics, a small telescope or great binoculars are needed.

Strong Noctilucent clouds

One of the strongest displays of Noctilucent clouds I´ve seen a couple of nights ago. It started around midnight and the show just went on to dawn. This photo is taken at the island of Gotland, using a Canon 6D and a 24mm lens.
When many people are sleeping some great shows are going on..nature can for sure bring some good ones.

Bye bye starry nightsky

Bye bye starry night sky! Probably the last starry nightsky photo before bright summer nights. I was also lucky with some faint Aurora Borealis, even in may - nice! This shot is taken close to my house in Vallentuna, it was a rare clear night with a nice nightsky, this is close to Stockholm, only 30km north.
Bilden tagen nära mitt hem i Vallentuna.

Another night with Aurora!

This time rather south, just outside Norrtälje Sweden. The red colors is only visible in the camera, not live, but the green bow with pillars and movement was a beautiful sight!

Moon and planet Mars

Last night planet Mars and Moon were beside each other, photo shows the celestial pair in mist with some corona around the moon. Canon 6D and 85mm lens. And check out a new photo at Carpe Noctem observatory of Jupiter and Galilean moons Jupiter with moons

10 favourite shots during 2013

Here comes 10 of my favourite photos from the year 2013.

Aurora Borealis in Vallentuna Sweden and I found a lovely location by the lake.

Wow, what a night, comet PanStarrs beside Andromedagalaxy in Tänndalen Sweden - a sight to remember!

Well, my APOD in 2013, comet Lovejoy through the window of Mörby castleruin Sweden.

A Perseid fireball by the eastcoast - a lovely time with my family.

This is a unique shot, the globular cluster M13, comet Lovejoy and a Geminid in the same photo with me and my father watching - great!!

Bauer forest with a magic pond and a starry sky, a great night with my children.

At last some deepsky photos now when my observatory are at place with a collimated N11 and an autoguider ready to photograph galaxies!!! The beautiful M51 Whirlpool galaxy.

What can I say, Aurora Borealis and Noctilucent clouds at the same time...:-)

Beautiful waves of Noctilucent clouds in Hedesunda Sweden.

Another Perseid striking in the Big Dipper and Aurora Borealis playing at Arholma island Sweden.

Wow, what a year, a comet year - very pleased with many photos. And thanks to the people who supports me, first of all my family, my father who joins me from time to time, "Silfver" who helps me out with many things, all the people who purchased my photos, private people, TV and magazines etc and to The World at Night (TWAN) who are a great international organization with very high skilled photographers.

The flamenebula och the horseheadnebula B33 in the constellation of Orion.
Photo taken with Orion 100ED and  modded 600D.
